A West African hand carved wood figurine from the Baule or Baolet people, Ivory Coast West Africa. The figurine is modeled in the form of a male figure with finely incised feet supporting powerful bent legs beneath a slender columnar torso. The oval head with forward projecting facial plane and tapering chin with pendant beard. The figure has surmounted by a back swept coiffure terminating in two braids at the back. The figurine is adorned with gilded ropes and textiles, and beaded necklaces on a neck, on a belt, and on feet. Mounted on a stable square stand. Used for ritual purposes.
