An antique 19th-century Russian Orthodox icon representing Mother of God with Christ Child. Mixed media painting: egg tempera, gesso, and levkas on a wood board. The icon is covered with a gilt silver riza or oklad, a protecting case with repousse decor and cloisonne enamel accents. Hallmarked on the bottom of the riza with an 84 silver standard and the makers mark with the Cyrillic initials GD, possibly for Gorbunov Dmitry Andreevich, owner of a silverware workshop, 1883-1908. The backside is lined with velvet. Antique Russian Religious Items and Collectibles.
