An Imperial Russian Orthodox icon representing Saint John the Warrior, a Christian saint and martyr, regarded as a helper in sorrow and poverty. Mixed media painting: egg tempera, gesso, and levkas on a wood board. The icon is covered with a gilt silver riza or oklad, a protecting case with repousse work and cloisonne enamel decor.
