Lot 0124: HAITIAN PORTRAIT OIL PAINTING BY ALPHONSE FRITZNER

41 reviews

Alphonse Fritzner, Haitian, 1938 to 2006, oil painting on canvas depicting a portrait of a woman with a fruit bowl on the top of the head. Signed lower left. Framed. Fritzner Alphonse was born in Port au Prince, Haiti in 1938. For most of his life he was a leather worker, but as he was a childhood friend of the famous painter Calixte Henri, he began painting at the urging of his friend in 1972. Since then, Alphonces work has been shown throughout the Caribbean islands, in Europe, at the Haitian Institute in Washington, D.C., and at the Organization of American States, also in Washington. As is readily apparent from his work, Alphonse is fascinated by the female figure; his paintings depict an endless variation on this theme. One of a kind artwork.

Overall good vintage condition. Signs of wear and age. Has some stains, scratches and minor chips. Refer to photos. Sold as is.
