Mixed media, black stone, chalk, and pencil on paper, Un Chapeau Pamela, A Pamela Hat, 1845 after Honore Daumier, French, 1808 to 1879. Hand written satirical comments at the bottom of the painting in French, A Pamela hat, You are quite right, Madam, to adopt the shape of this new hat... especially in profile it suits your face divinely. This painting was published in the Charivari newspaper in 1845. Honore Victorin Daumier, a French painter, sculptor, and printmaker, whose many works offer commentary on the social and political life in France, from the Revolution of 1830 to the fall of the second Napoleonic Empire in 1870. He earned a living throughout most of his life producing caricatures and cartoons of political figures and satirizing the behavior of his countrymen in newspapers and periodicals, for which he became well known in his lifetime and is still known today. One of a kind artwork.
