A vintage modernist style patinated terracotta sculpture of a stylized bird created circa 1940s by German-born American sculptor Margot Kempe, 1898 to 1981, Bears a paper label inscribed, Margo Kempe, on the underside. Fleeing from the Nazis, the family of Margot Kempe went to South America, living in Ecuador for nine years. There she successfully worked and exhibited, coming to NYC in 1947, where she started working in ceramic as well as stone and wood. Exhibited: PAFA Ann., 1960; Detroit IA; Syracuse Mus. FA; Univ.
