Ludwig Deutsch, Austrian, 1855 to 1935, an Orientalist oil on oak panel painting depicting a portrait of an Arab man. Housed in a gilt wood and gesso frame richly decorated with Rococo motifs, bears a metal nameplate below the image. Note: Ludwig Deutsch was an Austrian painter who settled in Paris. Deutsch came from a well-established Jewish family; his father was a financier at the Austrian court. He studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts 1872-1875, then, in 1878, moved to Paris where he became strongly associated with Orientalism.
