An antique Japanese mixed media collage, fabric, pencil, watercolor, illustrations depicting female and male figures in traditional costumes. Each is marked with a red stamp. An antique mixed media, ink, color and gold, painting on album leaf depicting an illustration for The Tale of Genji. Inscribed in the print, Genji Monogatari, Scenes of Tale of Genji, By Mitsuyoshi Tosa, Monoyama Period, 17th century, Coll. Kyoto National Museum. Inscribed with Hieroglyphs. Completed with an embroidered collage on fabric depicting a flower. Genji Monogatari, is a classic work of Japanese literature written in the early 11th century by the noblewoman and lady in waiting Murasaki Shikibu. The original manuscript, created around the peak of the Heian period, no longer exists. It was made in concertina or orihon style: several sheets of paper pasted together and folded alternately in one direction then the other.
