A large antique 19th-century French porcelain fish plate. Elongated serving dish with figurative gilt rims. The piece is hand-painted with a landscape view of a castle on the river. Signed by the artist in the lower right, J. Cluny. Sevres double L hallmark with letters S and F, mark A4 are on the bottom. Handwritten inscription in French on the backside: Chateau a Suscinio - Chateau Kermoizau - s. Vannes. Bretagne, Morbihan, XIIIe et XIVe s. Residence de Ducs de Bretagne - D apres un vieux dessin. Decoration realise sur commande par J. Cluny. Translation: Chateau de Suscinio near Vannes. Bretagne, Morbihan, 13th and 14th centuries. Residence of Dukes of Bretagne - After an old drawing. Decoration made to order by J. Cluny. The Chateau de Suscinio is a Breton hunting castle built in the late Middle Ages, the residence of the Dukes of Brittany.
