Lot 0179: CARVED OLMEC HEAD PRE COLUMBIAN AMERICA MADE STONE

41 reviews

An ancient Olmec head from Pre Columbian America carved of stone, presumably jade. The sculpture represents a mans face with a stern, hard expression. The head has harshly carved facial features, eyes with drilling holes in the center of the pupil and the corners of the eyes. The same drill slits are in the nose, in the corners of the lips and on the sides of the face. The head is flat, the forehead is roughly cut down to the middle. Comes with a heavy stand. The Olmecs flourished during Mesoamericas formative period, dating roughly from as early as 1500 BCE to about 400 BCE. They were the first Mesoamerican civilization, and laid many of the foundations for the civilizations that followed. South American Collectibles, Home Decor.

Overall good antique condition. Signs of wear and Age. Refer to photos. Sold as is.
Head 3 1/4 x 4 in. All measurements are approximate.
