An antique gilt bronze sculpture of standing Tara Bodhisattva, presumably Chinese, circa the early 19th century. The deity stands on a lotus pedestal, with long stemmed flowers to her right and left. There is a makers mark on the bottom of the figurine. Tara is one of the main bodhisattvas of Buddhism. She was born from the tears of the bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara, when he mourned the suffering of the world. From a fallen tear a lotus grew and from it Tara was born. Bodhisattvas are the holders of the divine essence of mercy in Buddhism. Antique And Vintage Chinese Religious Sculptures For Collectors.
