An antique Japanese Meiji era Satsuma enamel pottery bowl. The exterior of the ware is adorned with polychrome hand enameled figural medallions depicting flowers with butterflies, tree branches with birds, and rural mountain landscapes, surrounded by star, foliage, and geometrical patterns. The interior of the bowl features figural medallions depicting scenes with Geisha ladies and male figures in courtyards, birds on tree branches, and a pond scene with insects, surrounded by floral, foliage, bird, and mesh motifs with gilt accents. The borders are decorated with geometrical and foliage ornaments and gilded rims. Fine detail work. Marked with a seal mark, on the bottom. Circa: late 19th century to early 20th century. Satsuma ware is a type of Japanese pottery which originated in Satsuma Province, since the 19th century it was mainly produced for Western export and therefore elaborately decorated.
