Van Staaten, on the front of the frame. Louis van Staaten studied with his father Hermanus Koekkoek, and painted mainly seascapes. Some of his paintings depict turbulent water with ships and figures in the foreground; the isle of Jersey; a fresh breeze in the English Channel; showery day at Cape Lizard; Jersey from the East side, with Ladys Rats; drifting kof, type of sailing ship, waiting for pilot; off Kijkduin, former village near The Hague, in tempestuous weather.
