The piece represents the god Anubis standing with the left leg striding forward and hands at the sides. Provenance: Private NYC collection, previously acquired from Bonhams London in the early 2000s. Anubis is an Ancient Egyptian god associated with mummification and the afterlife and is usually depicted as either a canine or a man with a canine head.
