Lot 0050: CHILEAN WATERCOLOR PAINTING BY MARIANO ORTUZAR

41 reviews

Mariano Ortuzar, Chilean, born 1900, watercolor painting on paper depicting a coastal seascape with ships. Circa: 1970s to 1980s. Signed lower right. Framed. A paper sheet showing printed detailed information about the artist, and stamped, on the backside. Mariano Ortuzar is known for Watercolor nature painting, landscapes, canals, glaciers. Mariano Ortuzar, who was born in Santiago, Chile, is not only one of the most gifted Chilean watercolorists but has attained international renown in this medium. Paintings by Ortuzar are in the collections of Pope Paul VI in the Vatican, Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller, Mrs. A. Onassis, Vincent Price collection, Italian Princess Borghese and Prince J. DeBorbon, Chilean Ambassadors and other personalities. His art clearly shows a character both spiritual and mystical, one of peace, simplicity and delicacy which is, doubtless, the results of years spent in a religious institution and in the study of theology; by strange coincidence, it lends his work a great similarity to oriental art. His work is to implant, through his painting and his word, the beauty of nature under the universal aspect of peace, light and joy in all parts of the world. One of a kind artwork.
