Lot 0377: WWII GERMAN MILITARY CHOLM AND LAPLAND SHIELDS

A pair of WWII German military decorations, the Cholm Shield and the Lapland Shield. The Cholm Shield, the rarest of the German combat shields, features a shield, with a large open-winged Wehrmacht style eagle grasping an Iron Cross with a swastika at its center. It was awarded to those who fought in the Cholm Pocket on the Eastern Front between 21 January and 5 May 1942. The Lapland Shield features a basic shield with a flat top and rounded base, it incorporates an eagle at the top but without a swastika. Directly below this, is Lappland in capital letters, with a map of the region beneath. It was awarded to military personnel of General Franz Bohmes 20th Mountain Army which fought a two-front campaign against advancing Finnish and Soviet Red Army forces in Lapland between November 1944 and May 1945.
