An antique 18th-century Russian Orthodox icon. Mixed media painting: egg tempera, gesso, and levkas on a wood board. Gilt rims, cinnabar color palette. The icon depicts Virgin Mary with Christ Child in the Vladimir Mother of God iconography. Vladimirskaya icon is a 12th-century Byzantine icon, an early example of the Eleusa iconographic type and one of the most culturally significant pieces of art in Russian history.
