A pair of antique Japanese bronze figures. The figures are made in the shape of Jo and Uba. the oldest deities in Japan. Circa: 1912 to 1926. Jo and Uba, old man and old woman, are the oldest deities of Japan, who, according to legend, emerge from the fog on Lake Takasago and ensure that peace and tranquility always reign in the empire. Their paired image, called Yotomba, is a symbol of marital happiness and longevity. Jo and Uba figurines are given to spouses on their wedding day, as well as those celebrating the anniversary of marriage: 25 or 50 years. Weight: 2424 g.
