Vadim Voinov, Russian Soviet, 1940 to 2015, mixed media collage on panel, Thermometer 4, from the series, Thermometers, made in the Voinovs own art style called functio collage. Signed with a monogram lower right. Circa: late 20th century. Functiocollage differs from a standard collage by combining not the appearance, but the meaning of objects. Additionally inscribed with a paper label on the back. Provenance: from the collection of Vasily Frolov. Vadim Voinov was a Russian Soviet artist, collector, and art historian. He studied history at Leningrad State University and worked at the State Museum of the History of Leningrad St Petersburg from 1972 to 1993. He became an artist in the 1970s to 1980s, and has developed his own theory and method of creation of function collages. In 1994 he founded a personal gallery Bridge across the River Styx at the Pushkinskaya 10 Art Centre, St Petersburg. He has more than 70 joint and solo exhibitions to his credit. Works by Vadim Voinov are part of the collection of The State Hermitage Museum, The State Russian Museum, and The State Museum of the History of St Petersburg. One of a kind artwork.
