Signed with etching on the base. Circa: late 19th century.Henri Honore Ple was a French painter and sculptor, who trained under the celebrated French sculptor Mathurin Moreau. He exhibited for the first time at the Paris Salon in 1877 and received an honourable mention in 1879. His works were also exhibited at the World Exhibition in Paris in 1900, where he received a bronze medal. Ple was a painter of portraits as well as a sculptor. Many of Ple’s works depict Oriental subject matter and he is particularly noted for his works in bronze and patinated bronze. Later in the 19th Century and in the early 20th Century Ple began to produce works in the popular Art Nouveau style.
