Lot 0153: ANTIQUE ETCHING PLAN OF NAVAL ATTACK WAR OF 1812

41 reviews

Color etching representing a commented map of a naval attack. Titled Plan of the Attack Made by the British Barges on Five American Gunboats on the 14th December 1814 by Major A. LaCarriere Latour, Principal Engineer in the Late 7th Military District US Army. Plate IV from the Atlas to the Historical Memoir of the War in West Florida and Louisiana in 1814-15, published in Philadelphia, circa 1816. The tensions that caused the War of 1812 originated in long-standing differences over territorial expansion in North America and British support for Native American tribes who opposed US colonial settlement in the Northwest Territory. The events documented on the map preceded the Battle of New Orleans in January 1815, that was the final major battle of the War. Arsene Lacarriere-Latour, 1778-1837, was a French architect who spent most of his life in the Americas and served as an engineer in the Anglo-American War of 1812. Cardboard mat. Antique American Historical Collectables And Military Documents.
