Engraved by Frank Le Brun Kirkpatrick, United States, c. 1852 to 1917. Published by George Barrie, Philadelphia, 1895. Matted. Karl Uchermann was a Norwegian painter and illustrator. He is best known for his portraits of animals, in particular dogs. He also painted altarpieces, and is credited for designing the worlds first franking machine in 1901. George Barrie, from 1893 to 1895 was the Philadelphia printer and publisher, and worked upon a large and lavish series of original etchings and chromolithographs detailing exhibits of the fine art from participating countries at the Worlds Columbian Exposition.
