An antique 19th-century Persian hand-carved wooden pen box belonging to the Qajar period, 1795-1925. Qalamdan literally means pen container in Persian. Traditionally, it has the form of an oblong narrow deep box with rounded ends. The lid of the lot is decorated with a multi-figured composition presumably depicting a ruler surrounded by his retinue iand musicians. The sides are decorated with floral designs, figures, and Arabic lettering. Collectible Oriental Decor Items.
