A Russian watercolor painting sketch on paper depicting a costume design by Leon Bakst for Mikhail and Vera Fokina in the ballet Carnival 1916 after the original painting by Mikhail Bobyshev, Russian Soviet, 1885 to 1964. Inscribed, L. Bakst, lower right. Carnival is a famous one-act pantomime ballet to the music of the piano cycle of the same name by R. Schumann, first staged on February 20, 1910, by M. M. Fokin according to his own script. Costume designer and stage design by L. Bakst, conductor R. Drigo. Lev or Leon Bakst, 1866 to 1924, was a Russian painter and scene and costume designer of Belarusian origin, who worked mainly in St. Petersburg and Paris. Member of the association Mir Iskusstva, theatrical and artistic projects of S. P. Diaghilev, one of the trendsetters of the European fashion for exoticism and orientalism at the beginning of the 20th century. Mikhail Pavlovich Bobyshov was a Russian Soviet theatre artist, painter, graphic artist, and teacher. One of a kind of artwork.

Overall good condition. Signs of age and wear. Yellowing at edges, some dark stains on surface. Refer to photos. Sold as is.
