A Russian Impressionist oil on panel painting depicting a summer landscape with a distant village by Ivan Pokhitonov, Russian, 1850 to 1923. Signed in Latin lower right. Housed in an old wooden frame. Ivan Pavlovich Pokhitonov - painter, master of the landscape, Member of the Peredvizhniki movement. He studied in Paris with the landscape painter A.P. Bogolyubov and was influenced by the masters of the Barbizon school. Studied painting by K. Corot, Impressionists. From 1876 to 1903 and from 1919 lived in France and Belgium. Member of the Association of Traveling Art Exhibitions since 1905. He became famous in the early 1880s for his miniatures, mostly landscapes. Received recognition in Europe, became known in Russia later. He wrote with a thin brush, using a magnifying glass, on planks of red or lemonwood, which he primed using a special technology.
