Journal of the private life and conversations of the Emperor Napoleon at Saint Helena. Incomplete collection in five volumes of eight. Published by Lauteur, Paris, 1823. Hardcover. Brown leather over marbled paper covered boards, marble flyleaf, gilding and embossed covers and spines. Inscribed inside. Emmanuel Augustin Dieudonne Joseph, comte de Las Cases, 1766 to 1842, was a French atlas maker and author, famed for an admiring book about Napoleon. Count de Las Cases has to be considered the only person to actually profit personally from exile with Napoleon on St. Helena. Las Cases was the very first to publish an account of Napoleon’s treatment on St. Helena.
