A large antique Russian icon with the plot The Fiery Ascent of the Prophet Elijah dated from the late 19th century. Beautifully hand painted with egg tempera on wood. The lower part of the icon depicts Elijah in the desert; the prophet instructed by an angel; the prophet with his successor Elisha crossing the waters of the Jordan, and other scenes.
