An antique etching of a painting by Alexander Johnston, 1816-1891, Scottish painter. The Visit to Melanchton. Engraved by C.W. Sharpe, 1863. Published in the Art Journal. Printed by D. Appleton & Company, USA, 1825-1933. Antique Historical European Academic Art Print For Collectors. Alexander Johnston was a Scottish painter, known for genre and history paintings. While in Edinburgh Johnston took up portrait painting, and he brought with him to London some portraits of Dr. Morisons family, which he exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1836 and 1837. In 1838 he exhibited there his first subject picture, The Mothers Prayer, and sent his Scotch Lovers to the Society of British Artists. Graphic Art Prints and Collectibles.

Overall good antique condition. Signs of age and wear. Yellowing, stains, spots, damage at the edges and on the corners. Refer to photos. Sold As Is.
