A pair of antique copper plate etchings and aquatint on one piece of laid paper after Joseph Mallord William Turner (attributed to); illustration to The Portfolio of 1876; engraved by Alfred Louis Brunet Debaines; signed in the plate. Joseph Mallord William Turner RA (1775 -1851), known in his time as William Turner was an English Romantic painter, printmaker and watercolorist. He is known for his expressive colorizations, imaginative landscapes, and turbulent, often violent marine paintings. The first depicts a Moonlit view of the tower of a ruined castle, circular tower in the left foreground, a bridge crossing to the right, other parts of the castle in the right middle distance, in the forest, the moon in the left sky behind the tower. The second depicts a view of city on a river, with two figures sitting on a ledge of embankment in the center foreground, seen from behind, a river behind to the left, a road on the right leading towards the city in the middle distance, a shadow of a castle in the left background. Alfred Brunet Debaines (1845-1939) was a French artist and printmaker who depicted street scenes and architecture, and was the son of the architect Charles Louis Fortune Brunet Debaines. Overall good vintage condition. Signs of age and wear. Yellowing, stains, spots, damage at the edges and on the corners. Refer to photos. Sold As Is.
