41 reviews

A collection of three Russian Soviet paintings on paper. The first: Robert Lotosh (Russian, 1953) ink and ink wash painting on paper depicting a female portrait, signed lower right. The second: Mikhail Samuilovich Belomlinsky (Russian Soviet, American, 1934–2020) watercolor painting on paper, The Portrait of Julia Belomlinsky, 1969; inscribed, titled and dated by Julia Belomlinsky and stamped on the back. The third: Leonid Tomilin (Russian, Ukrainian, born 1958) pencil painting on paper, Hello Mr. Malevich, 2000; dated lower right; signed, titled, dated, inscribed and stamped on the back. Robert Lotosh, a sculptor and an artist of a mature stylistic warehouse, in whose work the role of tradition is great. High artistic culture is inherent in all the works of the author. Mikhail Samuilovich Belomlinsky is a Soviet and American illustrator. Graduated from the Leningrad Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture named after Repin. From 1957 to 1989 he was a member of the creative association Fighting Pencil, the author of satirical posters. Leonid Tomilin, a Graphic artist, one of the notable and interesting European draftsmen of the turn of the 20th-21st centuries, stands apart among the many adherents of the most ascetic and widespread form of self-expression of artists in the technique of pencil and paper. As for the term of the direction in which the artist works, then probably the closest was the legendary sixties, artist and participant in the Bulldozer exhibition Alexander Glazer (USA). He called what the artist does figurative and abstract expressionism. The virtuoso, emotional manner of drawing a stroke makes artworks by Leonid Tomilin absolutely recognizable among the mass of works by other artists. And the watercolor transparency of the stroke creates an aura of aesthetic self-sufficiency, beauty, and sophistication of the technique itself. One of a kind artwork.
