An antique Russian Do not weep for Me Mother icon. Hand painted with tempera on a wood panel. Circa the 18th century. The image illustrates one of the canticles of the canon for Great Saturday: Do not weep for Me Mother, seeing Me in the tomb, the Son whom thou didst conceive in the womb without seed. For I shall arise, and shall be glorified, and shall be raised up with Glory, ever as God, with faith and love magnifying Thee. The dead Christ is shown half-length, upright in an open sarcophagus. His head is inclined and his arms folded in front of him. His mother stands beside him supporting him with her hands.
