Lot 282 - JAPANESE MEIJI PORCELAIN TRUMPET VASE BY MAKUZU KOZAN

A rare antique Japanese Meiji period porcelain trumpet vase by Makuzu Kozan. The vase has a trumpet shaped form with a soft green glaze. The body is adorned with hand painted wisteria blossoms cascading downward, executed in pale blue and white tones. Marked with the four character underglaze blue mark of the Makuzu Kozan workshop on the base. The underglaze decoration, known as yukasai, was a hallmark of Makuzu Kozans artistry. Recognized for revolutionizing Japanese porcelain during the Meiji era, Kozan blended traditional techniques with innovative designs to elevate his works to fine art.
