An oil painting on canvas depicting an abstract composition. Signed, Pincemin, lower left. Jean Pierre Pincemin, 1944 to 2005, is a French artist. Jean Pierre Pincemin composes geometric paintings with an architectural feel. As early as 1974, he creates polychrome rectangular bands whose shape reminds one of an impassable gate. The work executed in 1985, induces the observer to contemplation. The spectator is absorbed by the coloured areas that gradually seem to free themselves from the surface. Contrary to light colours that melt into the canvas, the green and the brown rectangles seem to move slowly towards the observer.
