After years of study, she completed her art education at the Parsons School of Design and the National Academy of Design in New York City. She is known for Figure and portrait painting. Yanow is a member of the Pastel Society of America and the Allied Artists of America. In 2003, her art was added to the collection of the first ever museum devoted to pastel in Suzhou, China.
