Oil on board painting by Salvatore Scarpitta, 1919 to 2007, an American Modernist artist and sculptor. The artwork represents an abstract landscape with a tree against the red sky. Signed by the artist and dated 1957 in the lower right. Wooden frame. During and after World War II, Scarpitta lived in Italy. During his time in Rome he was represented by the leading Avant-garde modern art gallery in Italy, Galleria La Tartaruga. In 1958, Leo Castelli saw his work and asked him to move to New York and join his gallery. Scarpitta remained with Castelli until the latters death in 1999. Collectible Mid Century Fine Art.
