Oil on board painting by Pieter Hugo Naude, 1869 to 1941, a pioneer of South African art. He received his professional art education at the Slade School of Fine Art in London, the Kunst Akademie in Munich, and spent a year amongst the Barbizon painters in Fontainebleau. After the return to South Africa in 1896, Naude works on reflecting his intimate affinity for nature and the soul of the African landscape. This lot is a fine example of the artists mature work, with strong light contrasts, an open-air freshness, confident brushstrokes, and the use of a wide range of colours. The painting depicts a road among the mountains. Signed by the artist in the lower right. Undated. Wooden frame. Collectible Fine Art.
