A German Art Deco manner glazed hand painted porcelain figurine by Rosenthal, a famous German porcelain manufacture established in 1879. The figurine depicts a sad Pierrot. The model of the figurine was designed by one of the most famous and original porcelain sculptors of the first half of the 20th century, Constantin Holzer Defanti in 1919. The title of this composition, Ash Wednesday, is also unusual. Ash Wednesday in Germany marks the end of the traditional German Carnival and the beginning of Lent. Marked with a Rosenthal Bavaria hallmark on the bottom. European Porcelain Ware, Pottery And Ceramics, Decor, and Collectibles.
