Lot 0031: ABSTRACT PASTEL PAINTING SIGNED PEDRO CORONEL

A pastel on paper painting depicting an abstract geometric composition. Signed lower right: Pedro Coronel Roma 63. Matted and framed. Pedro Coronel, Mexican, 1923 to 1985, was a painter, sculptor, draftsman, and engraver. He studied painting and sculpture at La Academia Esmeralda from 1940 to 1945 under Juan Cruz, Francisco Zuniga, and Santos Balmori, where he later became a teacher. In 1946, Coronel went to Paris, where he attended workshops directed by the painter Victor Brauner and the sculptor Constantin Brancusi. His first individual exhibition was in the Galeria Proteo in 1954 and he later exhibited in France, Italy, Japan, the United States, and Brazil. Coronel was awarded the National Prize for Plastic Arts the year before his death in 1985. A retrospective was held at the Museo de Arte Moderno in Mexico City in 2005. One of a kind artwork.
