Oil on canvas painting by Manjit Bawa, 1941 to 2008, an Indian painter, student of Somnath Hore. Bawa is known for his distinctive use of color. The artwork depicts Narasimha, the avatar of the Hindu god Vishnu, patron of Yoga who is a part-lion, part-man. In this artwork he is representes in the Ugra Narasimha iconography, disemboweling and killing Hiranyakashipu, a demon king and enemy of Vishnu. Signed by the artist and dated 1999 on the backside. The painting comes with a certificate of authenticity, also signed by the artist. Collectible Contemporary Fine Art, Southeast Asian Artists.
