Hand-colored woodblock on paper by Alexander Francis Lydon, 1836 to 1917, an Irish-born British watercolor artist, illustrator and engraver of natural history and landscapes. This lot is Plate 15 from A History of British Birds by Francis Orpen Morris, first published in the 1850s. Titled Orange-Legged Hobby. Francis Orpen Morris, 1810 to 1893, was an Anglo-Irish ornithologist and entomologist, author of books on natural history. Lydon and Morris collaborated on a large number of works.
