Oil on canvas painting. After the 1880s engraving titled John Milton Dictating Samson Agonistes by Horsley, published in the Old Englands Worthies, A Gallery of Portraits by Lord Brougham. Ca. late 19th to early 20th century. Signed by the artist in the lower right, DR. Golden frame. John Milton, 1608 to 1674, was an English poet known for his 1667 epic poem Paradise Lost. Samson Agonistes is Miltons tragic closet drama which appeared with the publication of Paradise Regained in 1671. Collectible Fine Art, Historical Genre Painting.
