Oil on panel painting by Clementine Hunter, 1887 to 1988, a self-taught African-American folk artist from the Cane River region of Louisiana, who lived and worked on Melrose Plantation. Hunters most famous works depict brightly colored scenes such as funerals, baptisms, and weddings and scenes of plantation labor. Another popular motif in her work is still life paintings of zinnias, a fine example of which is this lot. Signed with a monogram in the lower right. Carved wooden frame.
