Mixed media textile artwork by Timur Novikov, 1958 to 2002, a Russian Nonconformist artist and art theorist, ideologist of the Neo-Academism movement. This lot belongs to the Neoclassical period. Square silk rug with rose flower motif and tassels, velvet, typographic printing. A portrait of Prince Alexey, son of the last Russian Emperor Nicholas II, is set in the center. Alexey is depicted in full-length, wearing a winter coat and holding a tree branch. Ca. late 1990s. Signed by the artist on the backside in the lower right. Textile works of Novikov were made of found fragments of fabrics of different textures and colors combined with classical images of beauty and symbols of St. Petersburg, the artists native town. Members of the Romanov dynasty were present in Novikovs work along with portraits of Oscar Wilde, Ludwig of Bavaria, and ancient statues. Collectible Contemporary Art, Leningrad Underground.
