Attributed to Frida Kahlo, American, Mexican, 1907 to 1954, pencil painting on paper, Self Portrait. Circa: 1935 to 1940. Signed lower left. Stamped with a gallery stamp, Julien Levy Gallery, New York, on the backside. Magdalena Carmen Frida Kahlo y Calderon was a Mexican painter known for her many portraits, self portraits, and works inspired by the nature and artifacts of Mexico. Inspired by the countrys popular culture, she employed a naïve folk art style to explore questions of identity, postcolonialism, gender, class, and race in Mexican society.
