Attributed to James Mahlon Rosen, American, 1933 to 2023, oil painting on canvas depicting a group portrait of a mother and two kids. Signed lower left. Framed. Painter James Mahlon Rosen was born December 3, 1933 in Detroit, Michigan. He credits early exposure to art at the Detroit Institute of Arts with kindling his desire to draw and paint. After graduating high school he took courses at Cooper Union under Nicholas Mariscano, then completed his degrees at Wayne State University and Cranbrook Academy of Arts. Over time he developed an oil and wax emulsion technique that allowed him to layer colors in a transluscent manner, with some of his works resembling watercolors. His work is included in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art and the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York; Palazzo Schifanois, Italy; San Diego Museum of Contemporary Art; Victoria and Albert Museum, London; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; Cranbrook Museum of Art Museum; and Arizona State University Art Museum. Modern and Contemporary American Fine Art, African Female and Child Portrait Paintings, and Collectibles. One of a kind artwork.
