41 reviews

Fedir Zotykovych Konovaliuk 1890 to 1984, Ukrainian soviet era, an oil painting on board depicting a landscape in warm tones. The landscape is dominated by a stand of birch and other deciduous trees in various shades of yellow, orange, and red, indicative of autumn foliage. The trees are situated in a meadow, which is rendered in warm, earthy tones of yellows and browns. A single, leaning birch tree is prominent in the foreground. The background suggests a continuation of the forest, with darker greens and hints of other colors. Signed lower right. Fyodor Konovalyuk was an outstanding painter, colorist, and illustrator. He studied at the Lavra icon painting workshop 1903 to 1909, graduated from Kyiv Art University, where he studied under V. Menko and A. Murashko. In Soviet times, he graduated from KDHI. He spent a lot of time studying under the supervision of I. Izhakevich. F. Konovalyuks works are distinguished by miniaturization and a deep sense of color.
