An ancient Byzantine Empire molded terracotta lamp, most commonly known as a slipper lamp. Circa 300 to 600 AD. The lamp is adorned with dot and Byzantine cross decor on the nose and around the neck. Its basic function was to provide light through the oil in the tank and the wick that was located in the rostrum. It was also used as a votive and funerary element.
