An antique Japanese covered bronze censer, Meiji era, 1868 to 1912. Raised on five figural legs, the body is adorned with intricately detailed patterns, one side depicts a relief figurine of a Kirin, a legendary hooved chimerical creature, and the other side shows a Phoenix bird. Flanked by two protruding handles. The lid is decorated with a very fine relief figurine of a running man.
