Whitman Raul Gualsaqui was born in 1960 in Otavalo, where he lives and works. He studied at the Faculty of Arts of the Universidad Central del Ecuador de Quito, where he is a professor of Drawing. In 1989 he was selected to participate in the II Biennial of International Painting of Cuenca and in 2009 the Casa de la Cultura Ecuatoriana Nucleo Imbabura gave him the Pilanqui medal. His painting is extremely traditional. The birth of his daughter changed his artistic vision, and he began to paint the Ternura series.
