Gustav Becker born in 1819, trained as a clockmaker in Germany and Austria. In 1850 he opened workshops in Freiburg, Silesia, Germany in 1850. It was a prominent German clock manufacturer, active from the late 19th century to the early 20th century. They were known for producing high quality, often ornate, clocks, including mantel clocks, grandfather clocks, and pocket watches.
